Senior Strategic Designer (The Boston Consulting Group, Inc. -
New York, NY) - Utilize design-thinking methodologies to strategically frame, validate and challenge research in order
to create human-centered user experiences, digital products, and services for case teams through collaborative
problem solving. Specific duties include: conduct ethnographic research and contextual design investigations to
understand customer behaviors, pain points, needs and aspirations leveraging behavioral science principles;
identify insights from customer research and market analysis; bring research to life through personas, behavioral archetypes,
value chain maps, ecosystem maps, customer journeys, insight-opportunity frameworks, system maps, stories
and scenarios; apply future visioning including curation and identification of trends, exemplars, analyzing the
competitive landscape; facilitation of collaborative design via workshops with cross disciplinary teams; apply
divergent design thinking techniques and agile methodology for the conceptual development, build and execution
of (digital and physical) products, services and/or physical connected form-factors; partner with venture architects
and product managers to ensure that new ventures and business builds are set up to deliver strategic value in
line with design intent; through the use of narrative-based storytelling; contribute to business development; and support
development of thought leadership across a range of emerging business, technology and design topics. Requires a
Bachelor's degree in strategic design, industrial design, interaction design or related field (willing to accept foreign
education equivalent) plus five (5) years of experience performing human-centered design including research, design
strategy, generative ideation, and concept development or, alternatively, will accept a master's degree in
strategic design, industrial design, interaction design, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent)
and three (3) years of experience in performing human- centered design including research, design strategy, generative
ideation, and concept development. Specific skills/other requirements (quantitative experience requirements
not applicable to this section) must possess the following: (i) utilizing human centered design methodologies,
including contextual inquiry, empathetic synthesis, rapid ideation, in-field concept testing, and cross-functional
refinement, to build innovative products and create human centered design capabilities across a diverse range of projects;
(ii) scoping, planning and conducting quantitative and qualitative ethnographic research through various human centered
design methodologies, to support problem finding, opportunity identification and concept development; (iii)
performing physical and digital product and service prototyping, testing, design and development; (iv) applying
future visioning including curation and identification of trends, facilitation of collaborative design via workshops and
other collaboration sessions with multidisciplinary teams; (v) performing strategy development to ensure product growth,
launch and scalability; (vi) executing visualization and analysis skills to share insights and synthesis through software
tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch Axure, and Invision; and (vii) building concept pitches and
storytelling, including experience presenting to and leading
senior executives and cross-disciplinary stakeholders.
Domestic/international travel required (up to 50%) based on client/company need. Must have unrestricted authorization to
