TO MOVE TO AUSTRALIA FOR 2 OR MORE YEARS WHAT WE’RE DOING The
Enterprise Mission C2 (EMC2) organization is delivering advanced,
multi-domain battle management capabilities that enable joint and
coalition operations worldwide. We are seeking a proven and
experienced technical leader to serve as the AIR6500 Hardware
Engineering Lead. The AIR6500 program will provide a Joint Air
Battle Management System capability for the Royal Australian Air
Force, delivering multi-domain integration across air,
electromagnetic, and missile defense battle management. The system
includes deployable and fixed operations centers, communications
infrastructure, and both active and passive sensor integration.
This is a two-year expatriate assignment based in Adelaide,
Australia, offering a unique opportunity to lead hardware
engineering for a complex, international defense program. THE WORK
As the AIR6500 Hardware Engineering Lead and member of the System
Engineering & Integration Team (SEIT), you will provide technical
leadership and ensure design integrity and consistency of the
hardware solution across the full program lifecycle. You will
oversee and lead all hardware technical aspects of the program,
ensuring designs meet required specifications, environmental
standards, integration requirements, and architectural alignment.
Key Responsibilities • Provide technical leadership and oversight
of all AIR6500 hardware development activities across Integrated
Product Teams (IPTs), ensuring design integrity throughout the
program lifecycle. • Drive the AIR6500 hardware solution and
associated interfaces within the overall system architecture. •
Establish and guide hardware requirements, sizing, and
environmental qualification strategies in collaboration with System
Architects and IPTs. • Lead hardware trade studies, non-functional
requirement reviews, and technical sell-off approaches to ensure
compliance and performance. • Oversee integration and verification
planning, ensuring hardware solutions meet performance,
environmental, and architectural standards. • Provide technical
oversight and validation of subcontractor hardware analyses and
deliverables. • Maintain a hands-on leadership approach—mentoring
engineers while directly contributing to critical technical
decisions and artifacts. WHO WE ARE EMC2 delivers mission-critical
command and control capabilities through disciplined engineering,
cross-domain integration, and international collaboration. Our
teams operate in highly complex environments where architectural
integrity, technical rigor, and stakeholder alignment are
essential. We value leaders who combine systems thinking, technical
depth, and execution discipline to deliver solutions that perform
in demanding operational environments. WHO YOU ARE You are a
technically grounded hardware leader with experience guiding
complex system development in integrated, multi-disciplinary
defense environments. You understand how environmental
requirements, integration constraints, packaging limitations, and
architectural alignment intersect in deployable military systems.
You bring credibility in design reviews, trade studies, integration
planning, and technical governance. You influence across
engineering, suppliers, and international partners while
maintaining accountability for cost, schedule, and performance
outcomes. You combine strategic thinking with execution rigor—and
you are energized by leading in a global setting while delivering
mission-critical capability. Basic Qualifications • Extensive
experience with hardware environmental qualification testing
methods and standards. • Extensive experience in the development
and derivation of environmental requirements for COTS equipment. •
Significant experience in comparison and applicability of Military
Standard Environmental Specifications (U.S. and NATO). • Experience
in the design of field-deployable and mobile military systems. •
Significant experience in integration and verification approaches
for hardware systems. • Significant experience in rack-based
equipment design optimization addressing thermal management,
emissions coupling, and related constraints. • Knowledge of
packaging approaches for ruggedized deployable land-based systems.
Desired skills • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering
(MBSE), including tools such as Rhapsody. • Experience with
requirements decomposition and management tools (e.g., DOORS NG). •
Experience with 3D modeling and analysis tools (e.g., Ansys) and
familiarity with CAD platforms such as Creo or Zuken. • Knowledge
of infrastructure hardware technologies, including computing
(servers, clients, storage), networking, and cross-domain
solutions. • Knowledge of power generation and distribution,
electromechanical control systems, and environmental control
systems. • Understanding of infrastructure software technologies
including virtualization, multi-level security, cyber defense, and
information assurance. • Demonstrated ability to design innovative
solutions to complex technical challenges and mentor junior
engineers. Lockheed Martin is an equal opportunity employer.
